Minnesota Wild Hire Bruce Boudreau; 409-192-80 Record as NHL Head Coach

We all knew Bruce Boudreau would find work quickly. We didn’t know it would Minnesota Wild Hire Bruce Boudreaube this quick. The Minnesota Wild hire Bruce Boudreau as their next head coach. Considering he was only out of work for two weeks, this is an amazing turn around for him. Bruce Boudreau has a 409-192-80 record as an NHL coach. In every full season that he’s been the head coach of a team, that team has won its division.

Boudreau was fired on April 29 by the Anaheim Ducks right after their game 7 loss to the Nashville Predators. The Minnesota Wild were eliminated in the first round under interim head coach John Torchetti, who replaced Mike Yeo midway through the regular season. Bruce Boudreau will become the Wild’s fifth head coach in the team’s history.

Boudreau was a  hot coaching commodity since being terminated from the Duckss. Ottawa Senators were hot on his trail and the Calgary Flames were also going to meet with Boudreau.

What Can Boudreau Bring to the Wild?

Boudreau will bring grit and stability to the Wild organization. Boudreau was the fastest to reach 400 wins among coaches in the modern NHL era. His teams have won eight division titles, four each in Anaheim and Washington.

His postseason track record isn’t as hot as his regular season accomplishments, but that shouldn’t be held against him too much. The regular season is a grind. Usually in most sports, making the playoffs and winning numerous division titles equal success. That kind of success usually doesn’t happen anymore in a salary cap era. Bruce Boudreau’s playoff record stands at 41-39.

Minnesota Wild May Have a Bright Future Ahead

The Minnesota Wild are a work in progress. Yes, they made the playoffs this season. However, they struggled all year  just to make it there. They have plenty of quality pieces on the roster. A solid goaltender in Devan Dubnyk and a few talented wing players. Boudreau is the perfect type of coach the Wild need.

The Minnesota Wild will hope that Bruce Boudreau can optimize the deployment of their talented defensive group. Offensively, the Wild have never finished in the top 10 in scoring, which is something Boudreau will also look to fix immediately.

Bruce Boudreau’s presence and reputation will help mold a young roster into eventual Western Conference contenders some day. Boudreau will bring his  postseason struggles to Minnesota, but what he will bring mostly is  lessons on how to deal with adversity.
