Despite a fairly silent lead up to 2017’s trade deadline, the big surprise comes from the Patriots in the trade of Jimmy Garoppolo, Brady’s backup.

Jimmy Garoppolo and his ‘Belichick-approved’ future are no more. A Monday night trade sends Jimmy G from the 6-2 Patriots to the 0-8 San Francisco 49ers.

49ers are in Dire Straights

Five years removed from a Super Bowl appearance led by Colin Kaepernick, Navarro Bowman, and Patrick Willis, the 49ers have been a train wreck in slow motion first triggered by the sudden departure by Coach Jim Harbaugh to the University of Michigan.

Then, a single season stint by college prodigy coach Chip Kelly further sunk the team’s morale with a horrendous 2-14 season. Hope lay in the hands of current coach Kyle Shanahan, but hope dwindles with a record of 0-8. The 49ers are hopeful now that addition of Jimmy Garoppolo might reinvigorate the team in a tough NFC West.

The Tale of Jimmy G

Jimmy Garoppolo is another of the 14 suitors borne from Tom Brady’s bench. Lo, did many hopefuls rise from the bench of Tom Brady, leaving his shadow of prominence for their own victories.

Tom Brady, in his most humble way, wished them well. For his last backup, Jacoby Brisset traveled to Indianapolis to spread the word of TB12.

Garoppolo, like most of Brady’s backups, are unproven. During Brady’s suspension, Garoppolo racked up 500 yards passing and  five touchdowns and zero interceptions, before being injured by chronic dirty-hitter Kiko Alonso with a sprained AC Joint.

The 49ers will have to put a little faith in Jimmy G, but, at this point, what have they got to loose? The internet has certainly reacted to his trade, and it isn’t all positive.

The best revenge is massive success and we wish nothing but the best for Jimmy Garoppolo, especially since he wasn’t getting any playing time with Brady reinstated and seemingly healthy.
