Fantasy Baseball Week 12 Waiver Pickups
Looking ahead to Week 12 of the fantasy baseball season, it may be tough to find reliable options on the waiver wire. However, there are still some players who are worth a look. Here are a few guys that are widely available and under 40% owned in most leagues in this week’s Fantasy Baseball Week 12 Waiver Pickups.
Willson Contreras, C
The Cubs called up their top catching prospect and he is a very intriguing speculative add for most leagues. Contreras has been crushing the baseball in Triple-A Iowa so far this season, batting .350 with nine home runs and 43 RBI’s in 54 games.
The depth at the catcher position has been very weak all year, so if you are in need of a backstop don’t hesitate to take a chance on Contreras. He is currently under 30% owned in most fantasy leagues.
Jon Gray, P
Good pitching is hard to find at this point of the season, so taking some gambles could be a formula for success. It’s not often you recommend a pitcher who plays half their games in Coors Field, but Gray has rattled off eight quality starts in his last nine games.
He has pitched at least 6 innings in all those starts and hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs while compiling 57 strikeouts in 55.1 innings.
Playing in a hitters ballpark, there is no telling how long the success will last, but you should roll with him while he’s riding a hot streak.
Carlos Estevez, RP
With Jake McGee injured, Estevez has now become the Rockies’ full-time closer and he hasn’t disappointed. Since taking over the job, he has converted on all three save opportunities — without allowing a run.
For the year, he has a 4.03 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP and has 23 strikeouts in 22.1 Innings.
If you are in need for some saves in your league, there probably isn’t a better option than Estevez right now. He should be owned in most leagues while he has the closer’s role.
