Rashad Evans vs Glover Teixeira Headline UFC on FOX 19

This Saturday, the UFC makes its way to Tampa, Florida with a stacked card full of exciting fights on FOX. This card is an absolutely can’t miss event and will broadcast on you local Fox station. In the main event we have UFC veteran and former Light Heavyweight Championship facing a former title challenger: Rashad Evans vs Glover Teixeira.

Rashad Evans vs Glover TeixeiraThis card has a little bit of everything: It showcases up-and-coming contenders fighting to get their name into title contention and also has UFC veterans and legends of mixed martial arts who are looking to get there careers back on track. The Rashad Evans vs Glover Teixeira fight is one that will bring two fighters with a lot to fight for.

Evans is coming off of a disappointing  performance at UFC 192 in October against Ryan Bader. Evans was clearly dominated throughout the fight and lost via unanimous decision . There would be no better way for Evans to redeem himself than to defeat former title contender, Glover Teixeira.

On the other hand, Teixeira is coming off of a two-fight winning streak in which he has dominated in impressive fashion, defeating Ovince St. Preux and Patrick Cummins. Evans is looking to get one last run at the light heavyweight championship while Teixeira is well on his way to securing himself another shot at the light heavyweight championship, which he previously competed for at UFC 172. He fell short to Jon Jones in that fight.

Rashad Evans vs Glover Teixeira should be an exciting fight to watch.

Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Machida

In the co-main event we have a rematch between two legends of mixed martial arts with Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Rashad Evans vs Glover TeixeiraMachida.  The two previously fought at UFC 157 in February 2013, in which the “Dragon” Machida took home a split-decision victory. Since that defeat, the 45-year old Henderson is 2-5 in the UFC and has been finished in four of the five losses.

Henderson is on the last fight of his UFC contract and said he may decide to retire regardless if he wins or loses this fight. This may very well be the last time fans get to see him Hendo grace the UFC Octagon. Machida, on the other hand, may use a victory against Henderson to propel another run at the light heavyweight championship after suffering two consecutive losses to current Middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and top Middleweight contender Yoel Romero.

Anything can happen in this fight. Machida still has a very tricky style of striking and is always dangerous due to his inherent unpredictability. However, Henderson, even at 45 years of age, still has that right hand. As the saying goes in Combat Sports, “the last thing to leave a puncher is his power.”

Other Fights

Also on the main card is Rose Namajunas vs. Tecia Torres. Both fighters are much better fighters and on the UFC stage, this is a pivotal fight when it comes to finding the next Challenger for the straw-weight championship.

To round out the main card we have Khabib Nurmagomedov facing UFC newcomer Darrell Horcher in a catchweight bout at 160 pounds. Nurmagomedov was initially set to face rising lightweight contender, Tony Ferguson, before Ferguson was forced to pull out due to a serious issue involving his lung. Horcher comes into the UFC sporting a 13 and 1 record with seven knockouts and he is being thrown with the wolves by facing UFC veteran Khabib Nurmagomedov, who hasn’t competed in nearly two years since he last defeated current lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos via unanimous decision.

Nurmagomedov is looking to continue his rise since he was stricken with injuries over the past two years, while Horcher literally has nothing to lose when he comes from fighting in small organizations and being thrust into the UFC with the tough task of fighting a guy with an undefeated record throughout his MMA career. Let’s see which guy will have the Octagon Jitters as one makes his debut and the other steps into the Octagon for the first time in two years.

The preliminary card also has some interesting match-ups with two streaking lightweights: Beneil Dariush vs Michael Chiesa. We also have a womens bantamweight match-up between former Ronda Rousey opponent, Bethe Correia, and Raquel Pennington.
