Mike Conley’s Injury Status: Most Likely Done for the Season
The Memphis Grizzlies have had a tough time battling injuries to their starting lineup this season. Already losing Marc Gasol, due to foot injury, and Mario Chalmers, due to an Achilles injury, Memphis has had to make several changes in order to compete at a high level. Unfortunately, more changes will have to be made due to Mike Conley’s injury status.
It’s been almost a month since Mike Conley was sidelined due to tendinitis in his left Achilles. After being re-evaluated by team doctors, however, the team has come to a conclusion that it’s best for Conley to sit out the rest of the season. Mike Conley’s injury status will be a huge blow for the Grizzlies right before the most important part of the season.
Taking a look at the Western Conference standings, there are still four playoff spots up for grabs between five teams. Memphis finds themselves in that fifth spot, however that spot is not completely secure. With five games left on their schedule, there’s a slight chance that they could even miss the playoffs.
Currently 41-36, the Memphis Grizzlies find themselves atop those five teams battling for a spot. However, the Portland Trail Blazers are only 0.5 games back with four games left on their schedule. The other teams include the Dallas Mavericks (2 GB from Memphis), the Utah Jazz (2 GB from Memphis) and the Houston Rockets (3 GB from Memphis).
What’s Left for Memphis?
If the Memphis Grizzlies want to keep that fifth spot, they’re going to need to start winning again. Although Mike Conley’s injury status won’t help them, it’s important for them to show strength when adversity knocks on their door. The team is currently trying to bounce back from a six-game losing streak, which started on March 22 when they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers 107-100. That game was followed by back-to-back losses to the San Antonio Spurs, before losing to the Denver Nuggets, Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic.
Although Mike Conley’s injury status won’t help them at all, the Grizzlies will look to end the regular season on a good note. Their remaining schedule is:
April 5 vs. Chicago Bulls
April 8 @ Dallas Mavericks
April 9 vs. Golden State Warriors
April 12 @ Los Angeles Clippers
April 13 @ Golden State Warriors
With a tough schedule coming up, it’s going to take a lot of players to step up in order to get those much-needed victories. However, it’s still possible to do so. They’re going to want any momentum they can possibly get before heading into the playoffs.
