Former Cleveland Cavaliers’ Coach, David Blatt, decided that he will find a new job as a head coach elsewhere after being fired during this season. He took the Cavs to the NBA Finals in his short tenure.

David refused to discuss his mid-season dismissal with USA TODAY Sports, but left it on a good note.

“I will say this: I’m really happy for the players I coached and for the staff that I worked with and for the job that they’re doing because they’re doing good work. They really are,” said Blatt.

Blatt was in attendance to view the Cavaliers and Toronto¬†Raptors in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals, where he was asked by another coach how he was handling the termination. “If you’re a coach, you’re going to get hit in the head once in a while. Believe in yourself. Never give up. Keep striving,” he replied.

Blatt also revealed in a brief conversation that he does not plan to take off next season–which he’s never done in the 23 years of his career–but in fact suggested that if he does not land a position as a head coach, that he’d head straight overseas as opposed to working as an assistant or an associate head coach.

“I don’t see myself not being a head coach somewhere but you never know.” He said. “I’m going to coach next year. I’m not going to sit out. It’s not in my nature. I want to work. I’ll be back somewhere. Could be anywhere.”

Where Does He Go?

But the question remained. Where to?

David Blatt has had coaching jobs in Russia, Italy, Israel, Turkey, Greece and the United States, and says this is nothing new for him, “it’s the story of my life” moving around, job to job.

In his 21-year career overseas, Blatt won a Euroleague title Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel and lead Russia to a bronze medal at the London Olympics.

Blatt is close to signing a $1.7 million to $2 million multi-year contract to return to Europe and coach Turkish club Darussafaka, according to European basketball player David Pick.
