Just two days after Bryce Dejean-Jones was fatally shot in Dallas, another NBA player found himself in trouble — although this one didn’t lead to a death. Police responded to a call made in Northern California, where it was reported that a woman was being assaulted inside her home. The suspect was Darren Collison, a point guard for the Sacramento Kings.

After the police arrived at the scene, they noticed the woman was visibly injured. They ended up arresting Collison on a domestic violence charge, which was initially announced by the Placer County (Calif.) Sheriff’s Office. He was immediately booked into the Placer County jail in Auburn, where he was officially charged with “once count of corporal injury on a spouse and two misdemeanor bench warrants for driving on a suspended license.”

Just hours after being booked, the 28-year-old was released on $55,000 bail and is expected back in court on July 11th.

In a statement released by the Sacramento Kings, the team acknowledged their awareness of the incident:

“The Sacramento Kings condemn violence of any kind. We are gathering additional information and once all facts are known we will take appropriate steps.”

Collison appeared in 74 games this past season with the Kings. In 30.0 minutes per game, he averaged 14.0 points, 4.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game. He shot 49% from the field, 40% from the three-point line and 86% from the free throw line. He has played some of his best basketball of his career as a member with the Kings, where he started playing during the 2014-2015 season.

Since a lot of the information regarding the incident has yet to be released, speculation upon how the league will handle a potential suspension hasn’t really begun. Until those legal ramifications are released, we won’t really know what to expect in that regard.

Needless to say, the league shouldn’t take a matter like this lightly. With one year left on his contract, only time will decide Darren Collison’s fate.
