Chicago Blackhawks Playoff Preview; St. Louis Blues Up First

With the NHL playoffs underway, let’s take a look at our Chicago Blackhawks Playoff Preview.

The Chicago Blackhawks have the chance to do something very special this postseason. In the era of the salary cap, no NHL team has ever won back-to-back Stanley Cups. With their Stanley Cup series victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning last season, they have the chance to become that first team to repeat.

However, the Chicago Blackhawks are the victim of some disappointing numbers this season. This could come to haunt the team this postseason if they don’t work to fix their issues, which include questionable roster depth, fatigue and a goalie that has been a little “iffy” as of late.

Corey Crawford, Chicago’s goaltender, has been the team’s most valuable player this season. However, in his past five games played, he has allowed 17 goals to the opposing team. In addition, he has only posted a .873 save percentage, which won’t be good enough for a postseason run like last year.

Another concern for the Blackhawks is their defense, which seems to get thinner each year. As of right now, they only defensemen on their roster that have proven themselves in the league are Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Niklas Hjalmarsson. If the Blackhawks want to succeed in this year’s playoffs, their young defensemen need to step up to the plate.

Regular Season Meetings vs. St. Louis Blues

November 4 – Blues defeat Blackhawks 6-5 in overtime.

November 14 – Blackhawks defeat Blues 4-2.

January 24 – Blackhawks shut-out the Blues 2-0.

March 9 – Blues defeat the Blackhawks 3-2 in a shootout.

April 7 – Blues defeat the Blackhawks 2-1 in overtime.

The St. Louis Blues won the regular season series 3-2 against the Blackhawks.

If the Chicago Blackhawks come to play like they did last year, they have a chance to make that historical Stanley Cup run. However, it won’t be easy. They have their hands full with the St. Louis Blues in round one of this year’s NHL playoffs.
