Boston Bruins Bring Back Kevan Miller

Boston Bruins’ General Manager, Don Sweeney, announced in a press release that defenseman Kevan Miller has been signed to a four-year contract extension worth $2.5 million per year through 2020. In addition to Miller’s contract extension, the Bruins also re-signed forward Seth Griffith to a one-year contract extension worth $625,000.

Griffith scored 77 points (24 goals and 53 assists) in 57 games for the Bruins last season. Sweeney also announced the addition of Bruce Cassidy and Jay Pandolfo as assistants, alongside Bob Essensa and Joe Sacco on Claude Julien’s staff. Their long-time assistant Doug Jarvis will not return for the 2016-17 season.

Miller just completed his third season in Boston, playing a career-high of 71 games last season. He ended the season with 18 points (5 goals and 13 assists) and played a major role for the team’s penalty kill.

Boston Bruins Bring Back Kevan MillerFor Miller, this was a come-back after having missed a large amount of time over the past two seasons due to a shoulder ailment, which required surgery. It ultimately caused him to miss 41 games in 2014-15.

Kevan Miller skated in 154 AHL games with Providence through 2011-13, scoring 7 goals and dishing 38 assists. Prior to joining the Bruins, he appeared in 144 games for the Catamounts over the course of four seasons from 2007-2010 at the University of Vermont, amassing 30 points (5 goals and 25 assists) with 97 penalty minutes.

The 28-year old Los Angeles native, who was signed by the Bruins as a free agent in 2011, would have been an unrestricted free agent if not re-signed by July 1st.
