Adrien Broner Calls out Floyd Mayweather After Defeating Ashley Theopane

Adrien Broner defeated Ashley Theopane in the ninth round by technical knockout.

After stopping Mayweather Promotions’ fighter, Ashley Theophane, Adrien Broner challenged big bro, Floyd Mayweather. The circus surrounding Adrien Broner’s bout against Ashley Theophane concluded with the now-stripped super lightweight champion defeating the British challenger by technical knockout in the ninth round of action.

Broner was supposed to be making the first defense of the vacant junior welterweight title he won via 12th-round knockout of Khabib Allakhverdiev in October. However, Broner registered 140.4 pounds at Thursday’s weigh-in, 0.4 over the division limit, stripping Broner of the title.

Friendship Gone Wrong

Adrien BronerDuring the post-fight interview, an emotional Adrien Broner spoke of a humble childhood that included eating cornflakes and water culminating with him challenging the now-retired pound for pound for a date in the ring whether it be sparring or an actual competitive fight. Mayweather called the call out the “Biggest joke of the night.” Well, it WAS April’s Fools Day, but Broner looks serious.

Adrien Broner and Floyd Mayweather have been close in the past, with Broner sometimes referring to Mayweather as his “big brother.” But being on opposite sides of the ring has prompted a deterioration in a relationship, with Money branding his compatriot a “snake” and insisting he’s not good enough to be a pay-per-view fighter.

Mayweather retired following the 49th and final victory of his unblemished career last September. He sat ringside throughout the fight, and laughed and flashed a wide smile during Broner’s comments. The call-out played very similar to that of Rocky 5. Floyd has continuously stated he doesn’t plan on returning to the ring.

Hard Knock Life

Nicknamed “The Problem,” Broner has two outstanding warrants for his arrest in his home state of Ohio. He is accused of assaulting a man and robbing him of $12,000 at gunpoint outside of a bowling alley. Broner, who allegedly lost the money to the victim during a night of high-stakes betting on bowling games, allegedly knocked him unconscious outside the bowling alley after a confrontation and took the money.

Adrian Broner is expected to turn himself in on Monday Morning.
