Manny Pacquiao Defeats Timothy Bradley; Goes Out on Top
Manny Pacquiao will be going out on top after his final fight Saturday night. At 37 years old, Manny Pacquiao defeats Timothy Bradley in a vintage performance in front of over 14,ooo fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
This fight, a rubber match between the two stars, was Pacquiao at his finest. His best showing against Bradley in their three fights together, Pac-Man was able to knock Bradley to the ground in the seventh and ninth rounds of the contest.
Pacquiao was able to avoid any controversy this time around. In the first fight between the two, Bradley won a controversial decision back in 2012, in a fight that many thought Pac-Man was dominant in. There was no debating this time around, as all three judges scored the fight 116-110.
The loss for Bradley will be a tough pill to swallow. The 32 year old boxer out of Palm Springs has said many times that he wanted his kids to be able to say their dad defeated the great Manny Pacquiao. It also hurts Bradley’s chances of being inducted as a hall of famer, as he is a borderline candidate as we speak.
Saturday would have been a monumental win if he was able to obtain it without any doubt behind it. Bradley could have made the case that the second fight against Pacquiao, one that resulted in a loss, was a fluke, as it was his first professional loss at the time.
What This Win Means for Pacquiao
This victory means the Filipino boxer will be able to retire with a victory, if he chooses to stay away from the sport. After undergoing surgery on his shoulder, which happened after his blockbuster fight with Floyd Mayweather, it was refreshing to see what a healthy Manny Pacquiao can do, constantly keeping the pressure on Bradley. He was able to put to rest any doubts that he should have retired earlier, after only going 3-3 in his last six fights, it was starting to feel like Pac-Man was hanging on a little bit longer than he should have.
Overall, this was a fight that boxing fans were looking for, as it seemed that both fighters were attempting to go out in the ring and attempt to finish the fight. Admirable from Pacquiao, as it seemed like he would refuse to just bask in what would be his final fight and try to win on the scorecards, it looked as if he wanted to go out with a signature knockout as he rode off away from the sport. Ultimately, it was bittersweet as Manny Pacquiao defeats Timothy Bradley.
If this is indeed Pacquiao’s last fight, he will be able to look back on a memorable career and see a long list of fights, knockouts, and losses. But no matter what, his final fight will be attached with the one thing a fighter looks for when entering the ring, a win.
